Francis E. Quigley, 87, died February 5, 2003 in Mesa, Arizona after a short illness. He was born August 22, 1915 in Lawler, Iowa to Delia and Edward Quigley.

"Quig" will be remembered for his grace, wit, and honesty. He was truly a self-made man. From an early age he worked full-time in various capacities in the food industry. Using his persistence, charm, and common sense he developed a successful career in the field of frozen foods and baking supplies, culminating in the founding and managing of Valley Bakers Cooperative Association, one of the first and most successful bakers' cooperatives in the country.

"Quig" also served his country as a member of the armed services in Europe from 1943 to 1945. While living in Mesa, Arizona he volunteered at Valley Lutheran Medical Center for six years. He was touched and amazed by the good work of the medical staff at the hospital, and was inspired to donate his remains to the University of Arizona Medical College for their efforts in medical research.

"Quig" had an extraordinary capacity to be at home in the local coffee shop, corporate board rooms, and on the links of St. Andrew's. His passions were his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, reading, crossword puzzles, golf, and his beloved 1979 Mercedes Benz. He was one of the original members of Ridgeway Country Club, serving on its board of directors, and overseeing the first major renovation of the clubhouse.

"Quig" is survived by his wife of 67 years Ruby (Kadlec), three children Gary (Betty) Quigley, Pat Quigley and Katie (Robert) Johnson. He was a loving, generous and proud grandfather to Pat, Mike, John, Pete Quigley, Jeff (Paige) Quigley, Charlie (Amy), Christopher (Blanca), David, Jennifer, and Willie Johnson. And great-grandfather to Katie, Erin, Sam, Kevin, Meaghan, Lauren and Johnathon Quigley. He is preceded in death by his parents Delia and Edward, his brothers and sisters Charles, Lillian, Helen and Jim.

Your family and friends miss you, Fran.
