The Valley Bakers Association community is saddened by the unexpected death of its leader and friend.

It is with great sorrow that we note the sudden death of Charles Worthington, Chief Operating Officer at Valley Bakers Association.

With wife Judy by his side, Chuck was the heart and soul of VBA for almost two decades. Chuck's tangible contributions can be measured in dollars and cents; growing the variety of products available through VBA, adding a freezer/cooler facility in Greenville, launching VBA's Bakers Supply, and establishing VBA's Progressive Warehousing program. His innovation and leadership was central to making VBA what it is today.

At the moment, though, what we remember most about Chuck is his zest for life. He was never without a smile on his face, a twinkle in his eye, and a quip to lighten the mood. Only good things came from Chuck. VBA wasn't just a job... it was a joy.

Chuck and Judy made their home in Appleton with their two daughters, Wendy and Carrie. But their hearts were on Washington Island, off the tip of Door County, where Chuck could indulge his passion for fishing and spend quiet moments with family and friends.

Fisherman's Prayer

I pray that I may live to fish...
Until my dying day.
And when it comes to my last cast,
I then most humbly pray:
When in the Lord's great landing net
And peacefully asleep
That in His mercy I be judged
Big enough to keep.
